From 1983 to 1991 Jonathon recorded the sounds of the surf on the east and west coasts of America. Then he reviewed his library to find just the right surf recordings to create the most peaceful and relaxing soundscape. Quiet Surf is the successful result: the wonderful slow sound of surf as breakers tumble and spread their waters across the glistening sand. Many listeners have used it to go to sleep to. (A competitor imitated the album—even recording in one of the same locations! A sincere form of flattery.)
Naturalist Jonathon Storm takes the listener deep into a lush Pacific Northwest ancient forest, through the seasons’ progression of fall and winter. Singing birds, bugling elk, and wild crab-apples falling through the forest canopy tell of fall. Winter is ushered in with falling rain on the evergreen canopy above; dippers dive for food in the bubbling stream, while the calls of ravens and squirrels echo in the distance. Clusters of snow cascade from the treetops; finally spring is ushered in with frog-pond song. 74 minutes; extensive notes in the booklet, keyed by tracks and track times, enumerating each species and their place in the ecosystem. Ancient Forest – Spring Chorus is the partner album to this album. Cover photo © by Charles Mauzy
Seastream follows the music of the waveform in water. Traveling to ocean, lake, river and bay beaches throughout North America, Jonathon recorded the intriguing sounds of surf: breakers washing sandy shores, crashing against rock reefs, flowing through tidal pools, bursting out of blow holes; delicate surf caressing cobble and sand beaches; tiny iceberg-generated waves slowly sweeping the shore, making the sand hiss. This recording is composed to be relaxing while providing and educational experience. 70 minutes. The 21 engaging selections are indexed to the 8- page booklet notes which describe the science behind the sound, the recording experiences and the places. Cover photo © by Charles Mauzy.
